Updated: Sep 3, 2021
It is an exciting time for On The Mend as we open our doors to investors in our upcoming Seedrs crowdfunding campaign.
As the world has faced the COVID-19 pandemic, our team has been working relentlessly on product development to ensure we would be ready to support healthcare providers as they deal with a historic backlog of elective surgery.
There has never been a more pressing need to help alleviate the pressures on healthcare systems and improve long-term health outcomes for an ageing demographic.
The latest NHS figures released for June 2021, shows 5,454,314 people now waiting for elective surgery with 668,763 in trauma & orthopaedics, the single biggest category by far (1).

Key to overcoming this major societal pressure is greater motivation among patients to engage with their treatment plans and smarter use of data to drive a more optimised delivery of care.
There are over 1.7 billion people worldwide with problems affecting their muscles, bones or joints (2). Studies show how patients do as little as half of their recommended exercises, which wastes precious system resources and leads to disappointing health outcomes (3).
There is evidence to suggest that by simply putting a greater emphasis on self-care, the cost of certain parts of the orthopaedic treatment pathway can fall by as much as 32% (4). This is due to more engaged patients being more likely to turn up to their appointments and engage in their physical rehabilitation.
Our co-founding team uniquely comprises a patient, surgeon and physiotherapist who have designed and built a digital platform from the ground up to address a global problem with a scalable solution.
We have put data security at the heart of everything we do, adhering to major healthcare industry standards for information security and information governance, including ISO 27001 and GDPR. This ensures we have in place best-practice processes as we scale to support people all over the world.
We are ready to start piloting our platform with healthcare providers to support better use of system resources, an enhanced experience for patients and clinicians and bring transformational change to physical rehab.
