Environmental Sustainability Policy

At On The Mend, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact and supporting the transition to a more sustainable healthcare system. As a digital health company working across the UK, US and China, we recognise our responsibility to operate in a way that conserves resources, reduces carbon emissions, and aligns with the environmental goals of our partners, including the NHS Net Zero strategy.

Our Commitments

  1. Digital-First, Paper-Free Operations

    • We prioritise fully digital workflows, avoiding printed materials in all internal and external processes.

    • Patient communications, clinical documentation, and training are delivered electronically unless analogue alternatives are requested for accessibility.

  2. Remote-First Working Model

    • We operate as a remote-first team to reduce commuting, travel emissions, and office space energy use.

    • In-person meetings are minimised and replaced with video conferencing wherever possible.

  3. Sustainable Procurement

    • We work with vendors and subcontractors who demonstrate sustainable practices, including energy-efficient hosting, secure cloud infrastructure, and responsible sourcing of technology components.

    • Our build-for-equity partner is contractually aligned with ISO 14001 (Environmental Management Systems) principles.

  4. Low-Carbon Clinical Deployment

    • Our platform reduces the need for in-person rehabilitation appointments, helping to lower patient and clinician travel emissions.

    • By supporting earlier discharge and fewer outpatient visits, we contribute to more efficient use of physical infrastructure.

  5. Carbon Footprint Monitoring

    • We will baseline our digital infrastructure emissions in 2025 and annually assess data centre usage, cloud storage energy intensity, and remote work impacts.

    • Sustainability KPIs will be integrated into our procurement and vendor selection criteria.

  6. Continuous Improvement

    • We commit to reviewing this policy annually and aligning with evolving national and global sustainability standards, including NHS Greener Plans and international equivalents.

    • All team members will receive annual training on environmental awareness and digital sustainability best practices.

Governance
This policy is overseen by our Chief Executive Officer, who acts as Sustainability Lead. Progress is reviewed quarterly by the executive team and published annually as part of our ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) reporting.
